How VAT is calculated here
VAT exclusive: enter the base amount. VAT = base × (rate/100), and total = base + VAT.
VAT inclusive: enter the total including VAT. The tool splits out base and VAT from that total.
Default rate is 7% but you can change it for what-if scenarios (educational estimate only).
Example calculation
Base THB 1,000 at 7% → VAT THB 70, total THB 1,070. If you only know the inclusive total, inclusive mode backs out the base.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I add 7% VAT to a price?
- Use VAT exclusive mode and enter the price before VAT. The calculator will add VAT based on the rate you choose, which is 7% by default, and show both the VAT amount and total price.
- How do I remove VAT from a VAT-inclusive amount?
- Use VAT inclusive mode and enter the total price that already includes VAT. The tool will separate the amount into the pre-VAT base price and the VAT portion.
- When should I use VAT exclusive vs VAT inclusive mode?
- Use VAT exclusive mode when your quoted price does not include VAT yet. Use VAT inclusive mode when the total price already includes VAT and you want to back out the tax.
- Why might the result differ from a tax invoice?
- Actual tax invoices may use line-by-line rounding, discounts, exemptions, or special tax treatment. This calculator uses a straightforward VAT formula, so small differences can happen.
- Is VAT the same as personal income tax or corporate tax?
- No. VAT is a transaction tax on goods and services, while personal income tax and corporate income tax are taxes on income or profit. They are calculated separately.
